Cohesity, a data backup and management company, today announced plans to offer: Azure OpenAI– Tighter integration with chatbots supported by security analysis tools and line of business (LOB) assistants active directory, sentry and rangeAs part of an extended partnership with Microsoft.
Chatbots are designed to support both rapid security analysis and business end-user actions. In a demonstration the day before the announcement, Greg Statton, Cohesity’s Senior Director of Systems Engineering, demonstrated a previous use case by showing a secure console with several potential anomalies displayed. Using natural language queries, the system was able to identify users accessing the backup system from unusual IP addresses and describe unusual behavior in log data.
“As we all know, ransomware not only targets your data, it immediately tries to attack your backups,” said Statton. “So we thought it would be really interesting to take a live log stream of data on who is accessing the backup system and what they are doing and put it together into a very crisp summary.”
The idea is that an AI system powered by Azure OpenAI Generate AI fear set, provided use CM information as the main data set. This is similar to a line-of-business feature Statton later demonstrated, giving an example of a law firm using AI to search for previous cases related to a specific type of client or legal issue.
“This generative AI hook lets you know which files [I need] Within Cohesity,” he said. “So I actually go into the heavily indexed data and get the key paragraphs that match my question.”
The actual delivery of these capabilities to end users in secure instances is done by Microsoft. The company announced that its DataProtect backup-as-a-service product will now integrate with Microsoft’s Sentinel SIEM package to respond faster to ransomware alerts. and incident tracking. Likewise, Cohesity’s data classification platform connects to Microsoft’s Purview compliance portal for data privacy and discovery.
Sanjay Poonen, CEO of Cohesity, said, “OpenAI is a huge productivity booster in how quickly we can get answers. “It’s not a question about the meaning of these lives. It’s a question about data.”
Cohesity said these new features aren’t generally available yet and haven’t given a release date. Poonen characterized it as an internal research project the company was working on to turn into a working product, and provided a timeline of months or quarters for a full release.
