If you’re like many of the customers I meet, one thing is certain: data is what drives business. The reality, however, is that only a handful of companies are taking the lead in data-first. If you are ready to take action now, this is an urgent guide for IT organizations that have a chance to achieve positive results.
Let’s look at a few paths. Data comes first.
Identify what’s holding you back
First, look for obstacles that are potentially blocking you. Recognizing your biggest challenges can transform your organization into a truly data-driven business.
Here are some questions I ask my clients on this very topic. When considering your current state, answers to the following questions will help you become aware of your current state.
- Are you providing data infrastructure? in a self-service manner What are you doing to support your stakeholders in moving forward using data and the underlying data infrastructure?
- Manual IT processes and ongoing firefighting operations take time. Focus on strategic business priorities?
- Data is stuck in different silos access and management?
- you ~ Deliver data, apps and data infrastructure on-demand For your business, including mission-critical apps? Are you always on and always fast to meet today’s business needs?
- Is the data available? Move freely from edge to cloud?
- and finally, you protect your data against modern threats Cybercrime, including ransomware?
Thinking about all these questions together… This is what is more broadly referred to as data management (the ability to store, access, move, and secure data throughout its lifecycle as it derives value from it). Data management challenges vary from company to company, but are complexities to be aware of.
It’s time to tackle the complexity of data management.
To dig a little deeper into this important topic, HPE recently commissioned ESG to investigate how organizations are addressing data management complexities and the benefits that top-performing organizations achieve.* Survey of 750 IT Professionals opened my eyes from the role. Data management complexity comes into play.
If you’re wondering if the complexity of data management really exists, the answer is simply “yes”. in fact, ESG Learning Of 750 study participants, 68% said the complexity of their IT environment slows down their operations and digital initiatives. Even more surprising, 74% of respondents admit that their data management capabilities cannot keep up with business requirements.
Business and IT leaders understand the need and benefits of being data-centric as key to digital transformation success. That’s why data-first modernization is essential for today’s businesses. But a complex web of fragmented software and hardware, including disparate management tools, infrastructure silos, and manual processes, is hampering the transformation journey. This complexity, which takes the form of complex procurement processes, inflexible provisioning cycles, siled data, and constant fire fighting, is a top priority that IT leaders must face and eliminate.
According to the same data, there are clear benefits to being data-first. study. According to ESG, organizations that are data-first leaders are:
- 20 times higher than the least mature tissue (called early stage) beat competitors in the market into multiple branches.
- It was led by data-first organizations. 49% more innovation than the initial organization last year
- They are twice as likely to do Recover faster from ransomware in a few minutes.
From mitigating risk to accelerating business to happier stakeholders, a data-first approach delivers quantifiable results for both business and IT. yet, ESG discovery Only 13% of respondents can be considered data-first leaders. So, in most cases, there may be some work that needs to be done to be data-first. Here, we naturally realize again the importance of simplifying data management complexities.
Game Changer – Cloud Operations Experience
To overcome complexity, IT leaders are now turning to the cloud model. According to an ESG study, 91% of IT leaders agree that running a mature cloud on-premises is the single most important step in eliminating complexity.
The on-premises cloud operating experience is the ultimate game-changing experience. The benefits of the cloud are well known. Self-service, pay-as-you-go, and on-demand scaling. We’re not talking about moving to the cloud here, we’re talking about getting a cloud experience for all your apps and data, everywhere. That’s why Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE)’s goal is to build a cloud operations experience across its storage portfolio, including simplified data management. Service delivery and edge to cloud mobility.
When the cloud operating environment is fully deployed, line of business (LOB) owners and developers can move faster than ever before, businesses benefit from app-centric operations, and their infrastructure is effectively invisible. Simplifying data management with a cloud operating experience is just one of the keys to accelerating data-first modernization.
How to get there – 3 must-dos
